Who is Edward K. Lee – COL Financial Group, Inc

COL Financial Group Inc is currently the leading online brokerage firm in the
Philippines.
But just
like anything else, it has its own humble beginning. And behind that rags to
riches story, one name stands out – the current Chairman and Founder of COL
Financial Group Inc.
His name is
Edward K. Lee.
“When we first envisioned our ambitions for COL Financial, it was built upon the foundation that every Filipino deserves to be rich.” - EDWARD K. LEE
In their facebook page:
“Our mission is to empower individual investors to take control of their financial lives by delivering the most useful and ethical financial products and services driven by our core competence in technology and market expertise. We are guided by our values of customer focus, innovation, operating discipline and teamwork.”
In their
website:
In addition, he is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CWC Group of Companies. Mr. Lee previously served as a Governor of the PSE from 1994 to 1996. He went on to become a member of the board of directors of A. Soriano Corporation (Anscor) serving for two terms (from 1996 to 1997). Mr. Lee took up Industrial Management Engineering at De La Salle University from 1970 to 1974. He also completed the Basic Management Program at the Asian Institute of Management.
Now that
great! It’s good that a company like COL Financial is dedicated into empowering
more Filipinos elevate their financial life.
I can
personally attest to the high-quality customer service of COL Financial. Every
time I send an inquiry, I get the answer at once without the long wait. The trading
platform is pretty very good with me with their constant quest for technological
innovation.
But do you
know that Edward has a much more interesting life story than the life of his
company?
I learned about
this in one of the success mentors’ interview collection of the Truly Rich
Club.
Edward didn’t
inherit his wealth. He had to build it up himself. He was also not even good in
school with his poor grades. He added that the only reason he had passed was
that his teacher was his mother.
He was
introduced into the stock market at a very young age while still in college.
In 1974 he
lost all his money and experienced his first taste of a market crash. At the
age of 19, he already knew the feeling of being bankrupt.
Fast
forward, now he’s a billionaire owning several companies. With almost four
decades of being in the stock market world, there must be a rich treasure
vessel of lessons in this guy.
I remember
one shocking statistical data he shared – that after a bull-bear market cycle,
only 15% would be gainers. A big 85% will be losers in the stock market! Whoah!
That’s why
He’s an advocate of long-term investing especially for beginners. While He also
teaches lessons on timing the market for a more active trading, a long-term
approach is more practical for the stock market newbies. You can take a leap into
trading probably once you have extra cash you can afford to lose.
As
they say, experience is the best teacher.
While I can’t personally request his
guidance and take all his learning myself, I can indirectly be guided by him
through Bo Sanchez’ Truly Rich Club. As you know, Edward Lee is the mentor of
Bo Sanchez when it comes to investing in the Philippine stock market. Whatever
Bo receives, Bo filters and simplifies it to relay to its members. It’s one of
the reasons why I feel safe with my investments following his advice, adding to
the fact that I really invest for the long term.
Key take away – Learn to Stand On Giants
One of the
greatest scientists of all time once shared with powerful quote:
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. – Isaac Newton
Alone, we’re like little dwarfs in the stock market. We can't deny it. But that shouldn’t equate to dwarf views and dwarf strategies. Be humble enough to have mentors.
Learn to stand on
the shoulders of giants!
Have fun
investing!
